ALTIS was founded with the express purpose of improving the sporting environment for athletes and coaches.
Since our inception it has been our mission to help create opportunities where they haven’t historically existed. Through this ethos, and the support of many, we’ve been fortunate to build a community of like-minded individuals. A community of people that also understand that sport can play a larger role in society, and can often be an impetus for change.
2020 has been a challenging year on many fronts. Yet, despite the threat of Covid-19, the virus has provided the space many of us needed to look deeper into longstanding social injustices. For us at ALTIS, this moment came with the death of Ahmaud Arbery. Ahmaud’s murder shook us to the core. Every murder is a tragedy, but the fact that Ahmaud was targeted and killed while out running, an activity that our community engages in daily, helped convey to us the challenges African Americans face in our society and the horror of racism.
In line with our ethos, we wanted to take action – to contribute in a small way to something positive. We decided to donate all of the proceeds from our first Virtual Apprentice Coach Program to a greater good. Ultimately, we decided to put the monies towards the establishment of scholarship funds at an Historically Black College. Hoping in some modest way that we could help create an opportunity where it might not otherwise exist.
We thought it would take many initiatives to raise a significant amount of money, what we underestimated however, was the strength of our Community. Very quickly, you built our little initiative into something meaningful, with almost 1,400 coaches ultimately contributing over $120,000.
Humbled and inspired by your support, we realized that our little initiative was only the start, and for this reason we decided to create the ALTIS FOUNDATION. The ALTIS FOUNDATION will be the not for profit arm of our company, committed to helping create sporting and educational opportunities amongst minority and underserved populations.
Everyone at ALTIS is committed to the ALTIS FOUNDATION. We believe good companies have a responsibility to provide strong stewardship in their communities and we aim to lead by example. We are excited for where the ALTIS FOUNDATION may take us. We know we don’t have all the answers, but with your continued support we are confident that together we can make a difference.
