Cayman Islands Athletics Coaches Conference

In conjunction with the Cayman Islands Athletic Association, ALTIS is set to host the inaugural Coach & Youth Development Conference from December 18th – 20th, 2015.

The three day event will provide a professional development opportunity for local and AREA athletics coaches – on the theme of ‘Preparing our Youth for the Next Level’. Based at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, delegates will be immersed in a vibrant program providing opportunities to develop and refine their coaching skills. In addition, youth athletes will be exposed to relevant, up-to-date information on the benefits that the sport of athletics can provide; via a blend of both theoretical and practical sessions.

Speakers include a world-class line up of coaches including Kareem Streete-Thompson (University of Texas), John Godina (CEO, ALTIS), Dan Pfaff (Head Coach, ALTIS) & Andreas Behm (Recruitment Director & Hurdles Coach, ALTIS), as well as special guest athletes including Cayman Islands National Record Holder for the 110m hurdles, Ronald Forbes and USA Heptathlete Kaylon Eppinger.

Specific lecture inputs are set to include:

• Understanding the Performance Culture
• Preparing Young Athletes for College & Junior International Competitions
• Planning for the Developing Power-Speed Athlete
• Acceleration Development and the Power-Speed Athlete
• Strength Training & the Developing Athlete

There will also be practical event-specific sessions on location at Truman Bodden Sports Complex, in addition to Coaches’ roundtable Q&A sessions.

At ALTIS we fundamentally believe that coaches are the key to improving youth sport: Improving the quality of coaching enhances the experiences of young athletes leading to greater rates of retention and attraction. We are therefore delighted to be working in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Athletic Association to provide this coach-athlete education opportunity, and support the development of our sport.
