Altis is pleased to announce the launch of its Community Ambassador Program. The athlete led scheme affirms our commitment to engage and support the local community, and allows us the opportunity to give something back, by positively impacting the aspirations of young people in the area.

The inception of the Community Ambassador Program was inspired by the success of Classroom Champions; a project launched in 2009 by Olympic Champion in the Bobsled, Steve Mesler, and his sister – Leigh Parise, PhD. The aim of Classroom Champions has been to ‘connect students in high-need schools with top performing athletes in order to motivate them to recognize their potential, set goals, and dream big, while educating them in the practical use of communications technology.’ Targeting grades 3 through 8, ‘the program brings Olympic and Paralympic athletes into the classroom using the latest communications technology… a kind of 21st century pen-pal. Each athlete adopts 1-4 classrooms per year and mentors students about training, goal setting, competition and perseverance using blogs and live video chats several times per month.’

Mesler, a 2011 International Champion of Peace Award nominee explained “we were looking for a way to make a real impact on the lives of kids and saw the use of technology as the optimal way to give them a repetitive model of learning whilst making the use of the athlete’s time and knowledge more efficient: We wanted to be able to assist teachers in talking to, and teaching, their kids about all of the non-physical areas that elite athletes excel at – setting goals, giving back, persevering, and more.”

Following the resounding success of Classroom Champions, the three-time Olympian will be facilitating the initiation of the Altis Ambassador Program in a consultancy capacity by “supporting the athletes in creating that vision, finding the best places of impact, and working on ways to best measure the success of the program.”

Speaking on behalf of Altis, Owner and Founder, John Godina praised the new project saying: “Altis prides ourselves on the quality of instruction we provide. Our relationship with Classroom Champions is no exception. When we launched Altis Community Ambassador Program we wanted the best possible results. To ensure this, we partnered with the best. We are confident that, because of our relationship with Classroom Champions, the athletes and coaches of our Community Ambassador Program will better our local community by leading from the front.”
