Athletes at Altis were in fantastic early season form this weekend competing in Flagstaff, Arizona and Boston, Massachusetts.
In addition to a plethora of personal bests and season’s bests from Altis athletes, this weekend saw Korean sprint hurdlers Hye Lim Jung and Tae-Kyong Park break the respective women’s and men’s Korean National Indoor records for the 60m hurdles at the Northern Arizona University Mountain T’s invitational.
The duo, who have been based at Altis under the tutelage of Coach Andreas Behm were delighted with the early season results; with Behm noting more to come from Jung after destroying her previous best of 8.81s by nearly half a second: “She would have been a lot faster had she not smashed into hurdle 5.”
Strong openers in the field events also saw Rashad Williams break his PR twice in the Shot with 17.23m on throw 1 and 17.28m on throw 3, whilst World Youth Champion Sanghyeok Woo cleared 2.18m in the High Jump – a performance only 2 cm short of his outdoor lifetime best.
Meanwhile, on the East Coast, Altis was represented by Canada’s Christabel Nettey in the Long Jump at the Boston New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. The former ASU student put down a jump 40cm better than any previous season opener with a mark of 6.49m – a performance good enough to put her straight to the top of the Canadian indoor national rankings for 2014.
Reflecting on the weekend’s performances, CEO John Godina said: “I am happy with our athletes’ and staff’s performances to open the season. As with any season, the finish is what matters most, but seeing solid results this early is a good indicator for the future.”
“The most important thing is to have a solid focus on the path moving forward, stick to the plan and overcome the adversity which inevitably arises throughout the season.”
