Former Great Britain sprints coach, Stuart McMillan, has joined the World Athletics Center to lead the Elite Performance Division and also coach world-class sprinters.

“I am excited to welcome Stuart McMillan to the World Athletics Center. His knowledge about coaching, treatment, nutrition and training theory will be a great addition to our staff.” Said sprints coach Andreas Behm.

Andreas Behm & Stuart McMillan”I look forward to working together with him to lead our sprints and hurdles.”

The World Athletics Center consists of two primary divisions – Coaching Education, and Elite Performance. After the appointment of hugely respected and experienced Dan Pfaff as Education Director in April of this year, it was important that the World Athletics Center find the right person to lead the Performance Division.

Founder & CEO John Godina elaborates: “With his wide range of experiences in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, we felt that Stuart was the ideal fit for us at this time. His experience with Integrated Support Teams at four Olympic Games – including key roles at three Home Olympic Games , as well as his work as a highly respected sprint coach made him a perfect fit for the World Athletics Center”.

Godina continues “Stu’s value to the World Athletics Center as Performance Director, elite coaching, and systems development, cannot be overstated. As a company we have sought out the finest coaches, and with the addition of Stuart to our stable, we are confident that we have yet again brought one of the top coaches in the world to the World Athletics Center. With more than 50 Olympians to his name as well as 26 medals we are honored to call Stuart McMillan one of our own.”

Stuart’s objectives will include helping to develop the World Athletics Center into the premier Track and Field Training Center in the world, to assist in the development and implementation of a practice-based sprints education curriculum, and to implement and lead a truly world-class Integrated Support Team, with a specific interest in the development of a Performance Therapy system.

Along with Andreas Behm, Stuart’s coaching responsibilities will lie with working with sprinters, as well as assisting coach Dan Pfaff with the day to day supervision of the jumpers.

“I am extremely excited to be joining up with the World Athletics Center in Arizona. When I was first approached by John, I was impressed by his vision of the WAC being not only the leading hub for track and field athletes, but a vanguard educator of coaches throughout the world. I can’t wait to join up with such an expert group of coaches – Dan has been a mentor for me since my early days in sport, and the work that Andreas has done recently – especially with Aries Merritt – has been nothing short of incredible. I have met all of the current staff, and can’t wait to get to work!”

Stuart has been working in high-performance sport for over twenty years. Most recently, he coached two members of Britain’s London 2012 4x100m relay squad. His experiences include working not only in track and field, but in bobsled, skeleton, Olympic weightlifting, speed-skating, football, and soccer. He maintains a key interest in the sport sciences, nutrition and supplementation, and Performance Therapy, and looks forward to joining up with a similarly educated coaching team.

“I very much believe in an holistic approach to elite performance, and feel that by optimizing and integrating best practice for nutrition, supplementation, therapy, regeneration, biomechanics, coaching and program design, we can provide an environment for track and field athletes that currently does not exist anywhere else in the world. John sold me on the vision that the WAC is to become a ‘one-stop shop’ for elite athletes – bringing like-minded people together, working in a positive and professional environment that will further the ambitions of all involved – athletes, coaches, and support staff”.
