As we continue to announce weekly the growing number of talented athletes choosing to relocate to Altis, we are excited to this week be welcoming Pole Vaulter – John Prader as the latest athlete set to relocate to Arizona. An individual with huge promise “John had a monstrous PR from college, but we think he has the talent to consistently jump at that level and reach new heights in the Vault” recruitment Director, Andreas Behm said. Hailing from Salinas, CA, the 23 year old’s PR increased consistently throughout College: as a Sophomore Prader’s best was 16’9; as a Junior – 17’6, and then as a Senior his PR was posted at 18’7.
We sat down with John to find out more …
What School did you attend and what is your Degree in?
California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and I studied Agricultural Systems Management.
Have you competed in other sports?
Not to any competitive level to be worth stating!
When you’re not on the track, what do you do?
Researching and educating myself on anything and everything.
What’s your ideal vacation?
I have been a lot of places and so I would have to say the International Space station would be next on my list!
What’s your favorite movie?
And your favorite meal?
Skirt steak, garlic bread, green beans, tomatoes, and salad.
Who is your sporting hero?
I’ve never had a person I have idolized.
Do you have a favorite quote?

Do you have any pre meet rituals?
It’s a closely guarded secret. But yes I have one!
What’s on your playlist if you listen to music before competitions?
Wasted – Lil wayne and electric music.
What are your career goals?
I train to jump higher. I don’t train to jump for specific heights. Competition wise, who doesn’t want to go to the Olympic Games?!
What do you hope to be doing after your athletic career is finished?
What does success look like to you?
Success is doing something better than others and getting enjoyment, enrichment, and happiness from it

What has prevented you from succeeding in the past?
Lifestyle factors that did not allow me to remain focused while jumping in college

Why did you choose to join Altis?
Altis provides me with training partners who have skills far beyond mine and knowledge and experience of how to jump higher. Success breeds success…
What are you most looking forward to about being based here?
Hot weather, cheap gas, and beginning something new!
