Fresh from winning the German Championship for a fifth time, hurdler Matthias Bühler has his sights set on a place in the IAAF European Championships final in Zurich.
The Altis athlete believes he is in the form of his life after his first year training in Phoenix.
“It’s been a really good experience,” said Matthias. “It’s the first time I have combined lifting and running in the same day during training sessions, and I have learned a lot in that area.”
“In Germany, as the winters are cold, I used to run a lot of volume but not as quick. But in Phoenix I have ran quicker and the quality of the runs are higher. I have learned a lot from other athletes training at Altis like Aries Merritt and Jeshua Anderson. They push you to run faster and work harder.”
“My times are better than last year, I am running more consistently”
Matthias gets his European challenge under way on Wednesday in heat 3 at 11:56 local time.
“I feel stronger this year. My times are better than last year, I am running more consistently, with my fastest at the German Nationals.”
“I am looking forward to starting the European Championships tomorrow. My big goal is to make the final because as the last couple of times I reached the semi finals. This year I want to make the final and I think it’s realistic as I am in sixth place in the European rankings at the moment.”
“In the hurdles anything can happen, but I am hoping to have a good run on both Wednesday and Thursday.”
