Big week at Altis for Apprentice Coach Program

This week sees preparations heat up at Altis as we welcome our 4th cohort of Apprentice Coach Program attendees, as well as visitors and returning athletes from across the globe.

Following the success of our first three Apprentice Coach Program weeks, we are delighted to this week be joined by 6 new coaches with a fantastic diversity of skills between them:

Larry Gardner, USA – A highly experienced Multi Events Coach, formerly based at Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Ian Cameron, CAN – Sprints, Hurdles, Jumps Coach at Vernon Track Club in Victoria, BC.

Neil Barrody, USA – Sprints & Jumps Coach, currently based at the Londonderry High School in Londonderry, New Hampshire.

Aaron Davis, USA – Coaches 100m, 800m, Long LJ, TJ, Shot Put & Olympic Weightlifting, as well as a former NAIA National Champion in the Shot Put, World Duathalon Qualifier, and 9 time All American.

Dr. Jack Chin, CAN – Strength Coach
Strength coach primarily working with Football, Wrestling, and Track and Field.

Michael Smith, USA – Coaches 800m, 1500m, 1000m, Cross Country – currently coaching at Georgetown University.

In addition, we are also excited to welcome a host of visiting coaches and athletes including:

Sprints Coach Glenn Smith from Iowa State

Coaches Kevin Tyler, John Dagata, and Jim Van Hootegem from the University of Oklahoma

S&C Coach Lance Hooton from the University of Oklahoma

S&C Coach from the UK – Nick Jones

Sprint Coach from the UK – Jonas Tawiah Dodoo, as well as three of his athletes

Chiropractor Dr Gerry Ramogida

Swiss Hammer Thrower Martin Bingisser

Also back in town are Altis female Pole Vaulters Vera Schmitz (USA) and Heather Hamilton (CAN) who are returning to Phoenix for summer preparations.

This week is also the last week at Altis for the Welsh Throwers, and their coach Andy Britain. Next week, we welcome Welsh Sprint Coach Matt Elias and his group of young sprinters as part of our ongoing partnership with Welsh Athletics.
